THE STORY BEHIND

“You and Me”

You and Me began with a very simple goal: make something catchy, upbeat and fun enough to make someone you love dance around the house with their headphones on.

Unlike some of CIEVA’s more emotional songs, there wasn’t a painful memory or major life event behind this one. The story came from something much more ordinary — two people who simply enjoy being together.

They don’t need elaborate plans, special occasions or even a destination. They can drive around, take the Ninja out — a reference to a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle — go somewhere for no particular reason, or simply spend an ordinary day together and still find a way to enjoy it.

“We don’t need a destination
We don’t need somewhere to be
Anywhere feels right
When you’re there with me.”

The reference to the Ninja is intentionally specific. To some listeners, the first reaction might simply be, “What is a Ninja?” It’s a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle, but within the relationship behind the song, it represents something they genuinely do together — one small piece of their actual life.

There was even some thought about removing the reference. The response from the person the song was written about settled it:

“Leave it — the Ninja is what we do.”

And that is exactly why it stayed.

You and Me wasn’t meant to become so universal that every trace of the real relationship disappeared. Those little details are what allow a personal story to remain personal, even when the larger feeling is something almost anyone can understand.

The heart of the song is its simplest line:

“You and me
We are the best place to be.”

“Place” isn’t meant literally. It’s the realization that where you are matters far less than who you’re there with.

There doesn’t always need to be heartbreak, a life-changing event or a profound story behind a song.

Sometimes love is simply being able to turn an ordinary day into a good one because you’re spending it with the right person.

And underneath all of that, the original objective for You and Me remained wonderfully uncomplicated:

Make her dance.

After hearing the finished song, the person it was written for delivered the final verdict:

“Mission accomplished.” ❤️

Sometimes a song really can be that simple.
