“I Wish I Said Goodbye”
This is a personal story.
It comes from losing someone when I was young — young enough that losing them never really felt like a possibility. At that age, you assume there will always be another visit, another conversation, another opportunity to say the things you never think need saying.
Until suddenly there isn't.
For years, I carried the regret of never having the chance to properly say goodbye. As time passed, some of the memories inevitably became less clear, but something else became clearer.
The person I lost had never really disappeared from my life.
They helped shape who I became. The love they gave me, the things they taught me and the memories we shared stayed with me. In ways both big and small, I still carry pieces of them every day.
It took me years to understand that.
I Wish I Said Goodbye came from that realization. It's a personal story, but I wanted the song to belong to anyone who has lost someone and still carries them with them.
I never got to say goodbye. Somehow, you never really left.← Back to Songs
